Petit Verdot 2017
The vigneron stood on the edge of his vineyard scratching his head. So many of his vines were loaded with ripening red grapes, looking just days from harvest. But a few still held small green grapes that had yet to swell and change color, what the vigneron knew as “veraison,” meaning the changing of the color. He shook his head and kept pruning, knowing his patience would be rewarded.

Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
Jumping into the nose with sweet cherry, pipe tobacco and finely polished leather, this is a unique rendering of a variety rarely made without blending in other grapes. On the palate you wonder why it isn’t kept separate more often, impressing with smoky oak, black cherry, anise and a powerful tannin matching an equally full body.
Winemaker Notes
Petit Verdot translates as “little green” due to its late ripening and tendency to go through veraison much later than many of its Bordeaux counterparts like Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Petit Verdot is known for powerful tannin and intense body, and this wine shows those in spades.
Food Pairing Notes
A great choice for a rich and savory mushroom risotto.
