Montepulciano Reserve 2018

The sun sets over the Corno Grande, the darkness quickly spreading from behind the nearly ten thousand foot mountain and bathing the vineyards surrounding and interspersed small villages in a relaxing twilight. A small wind ruffled the leaves of the vines as they settled down for a well-deserved rest. As night fell the sound of the clinking of glasses wafted out through the vines from the vinerias on the edges of the villages.

Tasting Notes
A beautiful dark purple, delicate aromas of raspberry and jasmine quickly inform the taster that this will be a special experience. On the palate, the wine is rich and unabashedly full-bodied but marked by a perfectly integrated tannin and acid structure, enhanced by delightful flavors of chocolate-covered strawberry and a bit of vanilla from the extended oak barrel aging.

Winemaker Notes
Montepulciano is two things, a gorgeous hilltop fortress town in Tuscany, that grows not a single Montepulciano grape, and a celebrated, hearty red wine produced on the other side of the country, most notably in Abruzzo, the home of the Corno Grande, the highest point on the Italian mainland. Always a mainstay of our red wine portfolio, 2018 proved to be a particularly excellent year for the variety, which is why we chose the fruit from the esteemed Le Ziana Rouge vineyard to craft this first-of-a-kind Reserve selection.
Food Pairing Notes
Always a willing partner for beef Bolognese or smoked meats.
