Chianti Classico Riserva 2017

Legend has it that in 13th century Florence and Siena, it was decided to use a horse race to end their land dispute over Chianti. The meeting point of two knights, who would leave respectively from Florence and Siena when the rooster sang at dawn, would mark the new borders of their territories. The Florentines selected a handsome black rooster and kept it for a few days in a box with no food. On the day of the race, when they took the rooster out of the box, he sang much earlier than dawn. Thus, the Florentine knight left before the Sienese rider, meeting him only 20 km from the walls of Siena. Since then, the black rooster has been the official symbol of Chianti Classico Consortium.

Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
Indulging with aromas of leather, fresh strawberry, wild herb, and wet stone. On the palate, this is a wine with a rich body, but with a surprisingly smooth and well-integrated acidity mellowing into soft, dusty tannins on the finish. A distinct sour cherry note lingers significantly on the palate, with just a touch of toasty oak giving an extra dose of intrigue.
Winemaker Notes
The Chianti region of Tuscany is defined by the unique Sangiovese grape. While Sangiovese is grown throughout Tuscany it is known for showing unique aromas and flavors based on the the region in which it is grown. Chianti is one of the most famous of these specific areas for good reason, the wines produced have an extremely complex aroma and flavor, with the best being capable of extended cellaring.
Food Pairing Notes
A fantastic choice for cured meats or veal parmigiana.
