The hawk circled above, turning lazy circles under the overcast Burgundian sky. Like a lightning bolt, it suddenly darted down, diving hundreds of feet in mere seconds and grabbing the starling, who just a moment before was happily devouring the grapes hanging precariously from a small, gnarled vine. As the hawk ascended, its lunch held firmly in its talons, the man standing at the corner of the vineyard tipped his cap. “Thank you, my friend,” he said through a knowing grin.
