Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 Winemaker's Reserve
The hail pelted the young green vine leaves, sending them dancing like frenzied ballerinas. Inside the stone hut over a small fire the vigneron and his sons wrung their hands in worry, concerned about their precious vines. After several nervous minutes the storm retreated, the skies cleared and the three went out to survey the vines. Some fruit would certainly be lost, but they knew the beauty of what remained.

Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
Aromas of plum, wild mint, sandstone, and pine resin. These delicate yet intensely unique aromas match a palate defined by fresh raspberry and bright acid, overlaid by rich yet smooth tannins.
Production Notes
2017 was a vintage marked by an extended period of flowering followed by a warm and mild summer, leading to a beautiful harvest in early October. Unlike in Cabernet’s native Bordeaux, where early rains and hail can be problematic, these grapes were blessed to escape the fires that plagued the area immediately after the harvest had finished. The wines produced showed a remarkable window into the past.
Winemaker Notes
This wine drinks much more like a Bordeaux or a Napa Valley Cabernet of 40 years ago than a modern, dark-fruited California Cabernet. Extremely elegant and a great choice for aging.
Food Pairing Notes
This wine would feel right at home with a choice ribeye.
