Barbera 2018

The young man drove his shovel into the hard, rocky soils, the sun beating down on his back as he dug the hole out bit by bit. After an hour, and with only three holes excavated he threw his shovel down in exasperation. Looking over to his father, lovingly planting the young vines behind him, he exclaimed, “Papa, why do we bother with these vines, this is too much work!” The older man looked up and smiled at his son, “Sometimes the best results are the fruits of the most difficult labor.” The younger man dipped his head in resignation, picked up the shovel, and began to attack the soil once more.

Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
Wowing with aromas of strawberry preserves, perfume, and lavender. This lovely medium purple wine greets the palate with a smooth yet fresh acidity that highlights notes of fresh black cherry and a tiny touch of vanilla from the oak barrel aging.
Winemaker Notes
Barbera is a natural for the Temecula Valley. It is an extremely vigorous grape, prone to lots of vegetation and high yields. However, to make Barbera with the most unique flavors and aromas, sandy, poorly drained soils, like ours here, help to focus the vine on producing a small crop of intense and delicious fruit.
Food Pairing Notes
This is a lovely wine to pair with traditional northern Italian pasta like tajarin, especially with a little truffle included for added savory qualities.
