Tannat 2018

The old man carefully prunes his vines, moving from one to the next, kneeling as he cuts the old growth from the last vintage, preparing the vines for a new beginning following a cold winter day that sat over the vineyard like a dark blanket. A solitary crow lands on the vine, startling him momentarily before he breaks into a smile, “today is dark, just like you my friend, but the light of the future always beckons,” he says softly as a few raindrops start to fall. Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
This Tannat exudes an inky, black color that serves as a prelude to the aroma and flavor profile of this special, bold wine. Putting one's nose into the glass, aromas of dark chocolate, blackberry, and cracked pepper immediately alert the taster that this will not be a quiet, subtle wine. On the palate it is marked by a very firm tannin structure, (fitting, considering Tannat is a name derived from the word tannin) with a powerful yet freshening acidity livened up by flavors of hedonistically ripe black plum.

Winemaker Notes
This is a wine that will age extremely gracefully for up to a decade yet provides a wonderfully savory and rich-tasting experience right now.
Food Pairing Notes
Served alongside a roast lamb shank or a duck confit the beautiful power of this variety will show a more delicate side when set off by the intensity of the meat.
