Tasting Notes
Generous notes of wild strawberries and plump cranberry practically leap from the glass, mixing with deep blackberry and spicy clove on the palate. The tannins are lively and fade well into the finish.
Production Notes
This fruit was harvested from our vineyards on Anza Road on September 6, 2016. We fermented together with our regular Primitivo and split 10 barrels aside in a mixture of 50% new oak and aged an additional six months before bottling.
Winemaker Notes
Primitivo comes to us from the Puglia region of southern Italy, but did you know that it’s a twin to California’s famous Zinfandel? They share the same DNA and like many siblings, they travelled different paths, both adapting to their new homes and developing slightly different character. Many consider the Primitivo clone to be superior with more lush, fruity components and it’s becoming more and more popular in California vineyards.
