Winemaker Notes
Imported from the rare Offida DOCG, one of the smallest of Italy's highest-level wine regions, this is a white wine like few in the world. The story starts with the grape itself. An indigenous central Italian variety, Pecorino followed a similar fate as the now legendary Viognier of France's Rhone Valley. Well regarded, aromatic, and capable of producing excellent wines, but overshadowed by more mainstream varieties in the rapidly globalizing 20th century world. Thankfully, like Viognier, this grape was saved by a few dedicated winemakers and is now gaining in popularity. The winemaking style is also extremely unique when compared to other white wines. Aged on the lees in oak casks for six months, this is an unusually full-bodied and complex style that impressed us from our first taste.
